Carlsbad, California – January 13, 2021 – The Smart Women in Music Fund (SWIM) is pleased to announce the second annual SWIM Summit Leadership Program May 4-7, 2021, at the NAMM Headquarters in Carlsbad, California. Applications for the Summit Scholarship open on January 20, 2021, and close on February 28, 2021.
Led by Dr. Jennifer Hall, the SWIM Summit program supports women working in the music products industry and their goals to connect, support, and grow their leadership and professional abilities. This annual leadership immersion experience will be offered with the applicants receiving the educational experience covered by the awarded scholarship.
“What an honor!” said Laura Penrose, owner of Nick Rail Music. “Not only did I learn incredibly valuable techniques in leadership, effective feedback, communication, and perception clarity, but I also had the unique opportunity to learn all these things alongside other brilliant women leaders from the Music Products Industry. Dr. Jennifer Hall was an effective coach and facilitator to push our limits, challenge our insecurities, and support our progress. I recommend every woman in leadership apply to attend the next Summit. Since attending, I have been able to use techniques I learned and continue to connect with the other participants, creating a strong bond both professionally and personally with these amazing individuals.”
Up to sixteen SWIM Summit scholarships will be awarded. The awards cover the curriculum costs for the three-day leadership event, an opening and closing reception, and meals during the Summit. The summit is held in partnership with NAMM through the use of their headquarters.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Women who have at least five years of experience working in the music products industry seeking opportunities to expand their leadership and professional competencies.
- Participants must be at a manager level or higher.
- Applicants should model the mission of SWIM to connect, support, and grow opportunities for themselves and all women in the music products industry.
- Must work for a NAMM member company.
The SWIM Fund envisions a future state of the music industry where at least 10% of the CEO roles and 50% of C-suite positions are held by women (the current state is 2.2%). Our focus with this program is to build leadership skills, confidence, and a lifelong network for inspired, driven women to reach this goal within the next ten years.
In the event that we cannot gather in person in May based on CDC guidelines, the Summit gathering session would occur at the NAMM headquarters October 12 – 15, 2021.
SWIM, led by Robin Walenta, President of West Music Co., Crystal Morris, President and CEO of Gator Cases, and DeDe Heid, President of Heid Music, was launched in 2018 and aims to support women in the industry in three key areas: offering mentoring, learning and professional development opportunities at The NAMM Show and Summer NAMM; job shadowing of female leaders at industry events; and in-company residencies.
